Hub Maps, Intermission Maps & World Maps: 1994
How I define these categories:
Hub Map - This is like a limited overworld map where the player can choose where to go next to some extent, and which shows where in the game world each level takes place.
Intermission Map - This is a non-interactive, usually more stylized version of a hub map or world map. An intermission screen (sometimes a scrolling one showing a larger piece of artwork) shown in-between levels which tends to show where your character is in the game world on their journey to the final level
World Map - A non-interactive, generally stylized picture of the game world which can be found in-game. No physical maps that came with the games
Overworlds I define as being more interactive with random encounters, puzzles and/or more of an exploration focus. These were not included besides the odd single screen ones seen in some earlier games, and some later mode 7 ones that the player can fly through
